April 27thwe were very glad that we had a interview at Shu Xin Third Buliding 204 with our Danish teacher.During the interview, we talked a lot of things about what should we do in our university  life.

Q1:How do you define our major, Hospitality Management?

A1:I don’t really have a definition, it’s not my job to define what the program is about.  So, I don’t really have a definition, I’m just focusing on what I have to teach.

Q2:I  realize  you teaching the economics very well, what do you think the differences between Chinese students and western students?

A2:Yeah, well. Actually I teach not only western students, actually when I teach in Copenhagen in Denmark, most of my students are international students. So they actually students from around the world. I also have a few Chinese students, but not that many. But more students from other Asian countries, quite a few. Now you ask about the differences. Well, one difference is that when I teach in Denmark, I tend to have a lot of class that discussion. I ask questions for  these students, and they respond and they also ask me questions like that. And Chinese students, they don’t like that so much. They don’t like to responding to questions. On the other hand, I think they tend to be more disciplined. Chinese students may like that they  sit down on time and they keep quiet when I’m teaching. Which is a good thing. For that can be more challenge when I teach at home to keep they the order you know in the classroom. Right here the students they are more disciplined. So I think another reason is that in the program I teach in Denmark are the students get participation grade, I don’t think you get that there, right? Do you get the participation grade? Participation grade means that I give my grade depending on how active they are in class. Actually, so I think that’s one of the reasons why some of the students they really want to respond to my questions because they know if they are very active in the class, they will get higher participation grade. So they have motivation, they have motivation to speak out in class and try to  say something and answer question. Think about that. So that’s one of the most difference.

Q3: Do you think our major  is a kind of service job in the future?

A3: Well, while you trained as a service industry, Hospitality Management is a part of  service industry. But of course I’m in developed country in my country. Most jobs likes the service industry.  But I think it obvious idea to have this kind of program, here in this area in China, right? It’s big Hospitality Industry here. SanYa is a hopefully future becoming more and more popular through destination. So obviously there has a lot of job opportunities in the sector. I think you will have a lot of future career options. What you think do I think is a service job? But what exactly mean service job? … Aw, okay, that’s what you mean. This kind of education you don’t need this eduction for simple jobs. But you can use this education for management positions in the service industry. And you can be a manger of a company. Company industry service industry. I’m not the one who invented this program right about one who decide the structure. I’m just teaching of course the program. But I wanna can say a really good idea to have this program. And they must be demand for managers in this industry. You need people to run companies in the service sector. Companies that run hotels, restaurants,so why not hire someone from this program? Seems like a good idea.

Q4:Could you give us some advices to  achieving our future work?

A4: The obvious thing is that to work out and achieve a lot, and what else. Learning good English,  it’s a good idea, especially since you focus in a service on the hospitality sector. You are probably a good chance to work with foreigners. If you cannot speak good english, a lot people I met they clam that they can be good english but actually they cannot. So if you can speak good english, you have a advantage. Make sure you learn good.

Q5: Our summer vacation is very long about two month, so, you think should we go to some restaurant to do some part-time job to emphasize ourselves or only study at home?

A5: I think well if you need money, that’s good to get a job. If you don’t, maybe is not a necessary. Actually i heard that in this school, students are trained. For example, hotel management, there’s a hotel in school, right? Where some of the students will be trained in how to serve guest. I think might be helpful for you to have some experience. But don’t spend too much time on it.

Q6:I have a personal question, why your Chinese are so frequent?

A7:Well, first one, my Chinese are not very good. I studied in China a long time ago, and I studied TongJi University in Shanghai. I studied there for one year for Chinese.  Actually even before that studied, I’ve just studied in the HongKong, Almost Guangdong hua. Do you know Guangdong hua. I could speak Guangdong hua a little. Do you have any students from Guangdong in the class. Can they speak Guangdong hua? Yueyu aww.

Q: How do you think about the successful of our life in english major?

A: Well I think depends mostly on you. I mean you can take any education and still have an unsuccessful for life. If you are not disciplined, you don’t work hard, things depend on a lot on you, you take this education, think this education as far I can tell. I don’t know so much about it. But I think it’s a good program that you will have experience with  teachers in english, and your Chinese teachers they also teach in english, I think they should. Do they do that? I think that is a good opportunity for you. So I don't think you should have good chances in life if you work hard, but of course depends on you.
